PNP Probes Cop ‘hazing’ in Lsabela Drill Training. The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Monday its intention to investigate an alleged hazing incident involving police officers in Isabela province.
Incident Overview
During a press briefing at Camp Crame, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo stated that the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) would lead the investigation into the incident involving Pat.
Jeremy Matthew Padilla, a 26-year-old officer recently assigned to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion in Barangay Macalauat, Angadanan town. According to reports, Padilla was allegedly assaulted by three fellow police officers on the night of May 24.
Details of the Allegation
Col. Fajardo explained that if Padilla and his family decide to file an affidavit and pursue legal action, the PNP would provide assistance. She emphasized that if evidence supports Padilla’s claims, the implicated officers would face administrative and criminal charges. “If the family of the alleged victim is bent on executing an affidavit and filing a case, we would help him.
If there is evidence to corroborate his statement, the three police officers which the victim mentioned would also face administrative and not only criminal cases,” Fajardo said.
Incident Report
According to a police report, the suspects allegedly punched Padilla in various parts of his body and hit him with a wooden paddle. His face was also covered with a wet cloth. The medical report indicated that Padilla sustained multiple physical injuries, including a hematoma in the right upper quadrant of his abdomen, hematomas on both the anterior and posterior aspects of his right thigh, a hematoma on his left forearm, and abrasions on both knees.
Currently, Padilla is in stable condition and has been advised by his doctor to rest for three days.
Contradictory Claims
Fajardo noted that Padilla’s classmates denied his hazing claims, asserting that Padilla suddenly ran away while undergoing an immediate action drill designed to train officers in apprehending suspects in mountainous terrains. She added, “One of those named was not at the scene and was off duty, another officer was on duty.
Only Cpl. Languido was present, and he denied any hazing. Nonetheless, this incident is under investigation by the IMEG.”
Potential Charges
Should the allegations be substantiated, the three police officers involved could face charges of physical injury and violations of the Anti-Hazing Law. This incident highlights the PNP’s ongoing efforts to address and prevent hazing and other forms of misconduct within its ranks.
Conclusion
If proven guilty, the officers face severe consequences, reflecting the PNP’s commitment to eradicating misconduct and ensuring accountability within its ranks to maintain integrity and trust.
