First-time job Applicants Told to Avail of Free Employment Docus. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the Cordillera Administrative Region is extending a helping hand to fresh graduates and first-time job seekers by encouraging them to take advantage of free pre-employment documents. This initiative aims to ease the transition into the workforce for new entrants.
Free Pre-Employment Documents
Several essential documents required for job applications are being offered free of charge by various government offices. These include the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance and certifications from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), such as birth certificates. These documents are critical for job applications and can often be costly to obtain.
To avail of these free documents, job seekers need to secure a certification from their respective barangays (villages) confirming their status as either fresh graduates or first-time job seekers.
Legal Basis and Benefits
Emerito Narag, the DOLE Regional Assistant Director, highlighted the legal foundation for this benefit, citing Republic Act 11261, also known as the First Time Job Seekers Assistance Act. This law mandates the free issuance of several essential documents for first-time job applicants.
Narag emphasized that this benefit is designed to reduce the financial burden on new job seekers, allowing them to save on costs associated with obtaining these documents before they start earning.
Kalayaan Jobs Fair
In line with this initiative, fresh graduates and first-time job seekers are invited to participate in the Kalayaan (Freedom) Jobs Fair, which will be held at various venues across the region on Wednesday. The locations include:
One-Stop Shop Services
During the job fairs, a one-stop shop will be available, featuring services from various government agencies. These agencies include the NBI, PSA, Social Security System (SSS), Pag-IBIG Fund (Home Development Mutual Fund), and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
Job seekers can approach these agencies to obtain necessary documents and seek assistance.
Additional Support
Beyond document procurement, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will also be present at the job fairs.
These organizations will provide information on alternative livelihood options, entrepreneurship opportunities, and upskilling programs, offering a broader range of support for new job seekers.
Job Opportunities
The Independence Day Jobs Fair is set to offer numerous employment opportunities, with at least 700 vacancies available for both local and foreign placements in Baguio City and around 90 slots in other locations. This presents a significant opportunity for job seekers to find suitable employment and begin their careers.
Conclusion
The DOLE’s initiative to provide free pre-employment documents is a crucial step in supporting first-time job seekers. By reducing the initial costs and providing comprehensive support through job fairs and one-stop shop services, the government is helping to ease the transition into the workforce for new graduates and job seekers, paving the way for a smoother entry into the income-earning sector.
