BI Foils 2 Chinese Fugitives’ Attempt to Flee PH. In a commendable effort to maintain national security and uphold immigration laws, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) successfully thwarted the escape attempts of two Chinese fugitives at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City. This incident underscores the critical role of vigilant immigration enforcement in safeguarding the country’s borders and preventing international fugitives from evading justice.
The Arrests
Commissioner Norman Tansingco announced in a news release that Jun Zhang (36) and Tianyi Zhang (28) were intercepted on separate occasions on June 1 while attempting to flee the Philippines. Jun was apprehended while trying to board a flight to Bangkok, Thailand, and Tianyi while attempting to depart for Xiamen, China.
Jun Zhang Case
Jun Zhang, who posed as a Myanmar national named Lu Kyin Yang, was arrested at the immigration counter. He had presented a Myanmar passport in an effort to disguise his true identity. Commissioner Tansingco revealed that the Chinese government had provided advanced information about Jun’s fugitive status and his intention to use a Myanmar passport to avoid detection.
Jun had entered the Philippines in April, prior to the BI receiving the official notice from Chinese authorities regarding his criminal activities. The BI’s swift action, based on this intelligence, prevented Jun from escaping justice.
Tianyi Zhang Case
Tianyi Zhang faced a deportation order from the BI due to her status as an undocumented and undesirable alien. She was found working in an establishment involved in prostitution and labor exploitation. Along with two other Chinese nationals, Tianyi is facing a legal case before the Makati City regional trial court for these offenses.
A hold departure order has been issued against them, ensuring they cannot leave the country while their cases are ongoing. Commissioner Tansingco confirmed that Tianyi and Jun are currently detained at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, where they will remain until their deportation.
Investigating a False BI Employee
In a related development, Commissioner Tansingco disclosed that the BI is considering legal actions against a man named Marion Badando, who falsely claimed to be a BI employee and a lawyer. This information came to light after reports indicated that Badando was involved in a kidnapping syndicate responsible for the June 2 abduction of two foreigners in Pasay City.
A thorough review of BI records confirmed that Badando has never been employed by the BI. Commissioner Tansingco advised the public to verify the credentials of individuals claiming to be BI employees through official channels or via the Commissioner’s helpline at
Conclusion
The BI’s successful interception of these fugitives highlights the importance of international cooperation and vigilant border control. The swift actions of the BI, guided by intelligence from the Chinese government, ensured that justice was not thwarted by the criminals’ attempts to flee.
This incident also serves as a reminder for the public to be cautious and verify the credentials of individuals claiming official positions, to prevent falling prey to fraudulent schemes.
